Die Trilogie der Sommerfrische
Description:
Record of a Burgtheater production of 1974. Directed by Giorgio Strehler, who had shown before his mastership in other Goldoni plays like “Arlecchino Servitore di Due Padroni” or “Le Baruffe Chiozotte”. Here, with “Trilogia della Villegiatura”, we are shown one of Goldoni’s ripe works, a serene and melancholic comedy about the ambiguity of a dying society. With Andrea Jonasson, Frank Hoffmann, Gertraud Jesserer, Susi Nicoletti and Michael Heltau as Ferdinando.

Liebelei
Description:
The
constellation Heinrich Schnitzler, Leopold Rudolf, Michael Heltau once again
came together in 1968 at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, for
Schnitzler’s early three-act-drama „Liebelei“. Heltau played Fritz Lobheimer
(Vienna “Kurier”: “Michael Heltau plays this part immaculately aloof, jaded and
cloudy, split from himself and from the world.”).
Four
years later Heltau would play the part of Theodor Kaiser in “Liebelei”, under
the direction of Gerhard Klingenberg at the Akademietheater Vienna.

Operette sich wer kann
Description:
A homage to Viennese operetta Haute couture and not ready-made. Works by Ralph Benatzky, Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss, Robert Stolz, Emmerich Kálmán, and Paul Abraham. What is a sleepwalking transition, how to harmonize a slur or a rhythmic refinement, how to accelerate the pulse by a little delay - this art is mastered supremely well by Michael Heltau and his musicians.

Die Entführung aus dem Serail
Description:
Recording
of the world-famous mise-en-scène of “The Abduction from the Seraglio” by Giorgio
Strehler at Salzburg Festival. This production had its first appearance in 1965
and remained for more than ten years on the repertoire. For Michael Heltau this
work marked the beginning of his lifelong friendship with Strehler who had
engaged him for this role “as a mixture of a young Othello and a young Nathan
the Wise”. Heltau gave back this underestimated part its appropriate rank. He
guested all over Europe within this model production.
The DVD
record is of 1967 with Ingeborg Hallstein and Luigi Alva.
